When Hamilton opened in Sydney, it completely dominated the live theatre scene in the city. The Australian producer for Hamilton, Michael Cassel, said of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s production that it is ‘musical theatre at its most innovative, original and transformative best’ and is the reason why it needed to come to Australian audiences.
For the uninitiated, Hamilton, The Musical is the story of Alexander Hamilton, the first secretary of the treasury and right-hand man of George Washington during the Revolutionary War. He was a black immigrant from the West Indies and just like his country, he is ‘young, scrappy and hungry’.
